Get ready to gobble up some learning with ideas for a Turkey-Themed STEAM Day — the perfect mix of science, technology, engineering, art, and math! Whether you’re planning a festive classroom celebration or just want to add some hands-on fun to your fall lessons, these centers are sure to keep your little learners engaged, curious, and smiling all day long.
📚 Start the Day: Reading Turkey Trouble
We kick off our Turkey STEAM Day with the hilarious story Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano. This read-aloud is full of giggles as students follow a clever turkey who disguises himself to avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner!
Our interactive read-aloud lesson plans guide comprehension, vocabulary, and discussion—setting the stage for the rest of our turkey-filled day.
🔬 Science: Labeling the Parts of a Turkey

For science, students explore the parts of a turkey! They’ll learn about the wattle, beak, feathers, and more, reinforcing vocabulary and observation skills. Labeling diagrams make it a fun, visual way to tie in nonfiction learning with real-world animal study. You can use a picture of a turkey -OR- do a directed drawing of a turkey and have students draw lines to label each part.
💻 Technology: Rhyming and Numbers 0-10 Boom Card Games

In the technology center, students practice number order and rhyming with interactive Boom Card games. These self-checking digital cards help students strengthen counting, rhyming, and number recognition—all with a turkey twist! Click on the images above to check them out!
🧱 Engineering: Turkey Hideouts and Traps
Our engineering centers are where creativity really takes flight! There are two building challenges for students to choose from:
- Build a Hideout for a Turkey – Inspired by Turkey Trouble, students design and construct a cozy hideout to help their turkey stay safe from the farmer.
- Build a Trap to Catch a Turkey – After reading How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace, students switch roles and design a clever trap to catch a turkey using classroom materials. These problem-solving challenges are perfect for teamwork and critical thinking!
🎨 Art: Thankful Turkeys
In the art center, students craft their own Thankful Turkeys! They’ll cut out a turkey body and feathers, then write something they’re thankful for on each feather before gluing them in place. It’s a heartwarming project that makes a great hallway display for Thanksgiving week.
➕ Math: I Spy 2D and 3D Shapes

Math gets a sensory twist with our I Spy Shape Game! Students reach into a sensory bin filled with shape cards, pull one out, and color the matching shape on their recording sheet. It’s a fun way to review 2D and 3D shapes while building fine motor skills and attention to detail.
🎁 Freebie: Disguise a Turkey Activity

To tie back to the “Turkey Trouble” story, we’ve included a free Turkey-themed printable you can download and use right away! Students can either draw or add materials to the turkey to try to disguise it from the farmer. This can also be sent home for families to do together. Click HERE to download the free printable!
