Description
Engaging and hands-on Letter Matching practice! Your students will love matching up the upper and lowercase letters (locks and keys) and using the recording sheet to write down all of the letters they unlock! These are great for whole-class teaching, small group instruction, literacy centers, independent practice, morning work, or intervention.
What’s Included:
52 locks (26 uppercase letters and 26 lowercase letters) and 52 corresponding letters (keys) in color OR black and white that can be matched together to practice an important and crucial beginning reading skill, letter recognition. These locks can be used for many different purposes and in a variety of ways.
Why use Letter Matching Literacy Locks?
Research supports how important it is for beginning readers to practice identifying letters. Intentional, frequent, and focused opportunities to practice over an extended time (deliberate practice) facilitates automaticity with this skill. Since research also shows that learners are more motivated to do an activity that is fun and novel, Letter Matching Literacy Locks is an activity that meets that criteria. Literacy Locks combine the motivation of a hands-on, engaging activity and deliberate practice with the goal of helping students gain automaticity in Letter Recognition and to do it in a way that is both fun and motivational.
How to Use:
Students choose a key and find the match on a lock. They can match uppercase to uppercase, lowercase to lowercase, or upper to lowercase. Students can start with either the lock or the key. They can then write the letters on a lock on the recording sheet (optional).
