Description
If you are looking for a NO-prep, quick way to review or even introduce kindergarten math skills, this Kindergarten Digital Math Skill Review is exactly what you need. There are 20 lessons per week and four weeks per month. It will give your students the review practice they need and save you a ton of time. It is digital; however, it can very easily be printed and hung up on a board or projected using a document camera.
How can I use the Math Skill Review resource?
This resource can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used as a warm-up activity before your main math lesson, as a way to review and practice math concepts already taught, to introduce and practice new math concepts, as a sponge activity when you have a few minutes to practice skills, or as an activity that can be used by a parent volunteer or paraprofessional. It can be used whole class, with a small group of students, or even one-on-one. The 20 lessons per week can be spread out over the week, done over a few days, or even completed in a math block. We usually do four or five of the skills during our math warm-up.
What are the components of the Math Skill Review?
There are 20 different skill slides for each week and four weeks of slides per month. There are also specific optional recording sheets for each week. Each set of slides contains different foundational math skills. See below for the skills covered on each slide. The slides increase in complexity as the weeks and months progress. It is easy to differentiate or extend the learning by changing the prompt.
•oral counting
•patterning
•subitizing
•ten frames
• shape identification
•missing number
•counting objects (2+ different slides)
•sorting
•identifying 1 more or 1 less
•number writing
•matching quantity to a #
•drawing shapes
•graphing
•measurement (2 different slides)
•comparing amounts
•number bonds
•addition word problems
•subtraction word problem
AND more!
How do I prep the Math Skill Review resource?
There are several different ways that you can prepare this resource depending on how you want to use it. The slides can be projected as a PowerPoint presentation using a computer or a smart board. The slides can also be printed out and put on a whiteboard or bulletin board or projected using a document camera. We kept the slides clean and simple so that the emphasis and focus will be on the math skill.
If you want to use the optional recording sheets, they can be made into a booklet for the month or even for the school year. They can also be passed out weekly. Each skill slide has an icon in the upper left corner that matches an icon on the recording sheet, so that students know where to record their responses. The recording sheets have a speech bubble picture if the response will be oral, picture support if needed (for example, to complete a pattern or measuring activity), and a blank box for all other responses.
Since many of the weekly slides have a generic theme, the slides can be used during different months. The only difference would be the title slide. For example, the August slides feature a school theme and could also be used in September or anytime. One thing to keep in mind is that the skills and/or tasks increase in complexity as the months progress through the school year.
