Description
Engaging and hands-on letter matching and letter recognition practice! Your students will love matching uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet and using the recording sheet to color or write all of the letters they find! These are great for whole-class teaching, small group instruction, literacy centers, independent practice, morning work, or intervention.
What’s Included:
52 letter cards (26 uppercase letters and 26 lowercase letters) in color OR black and white and five different recording sheets that can be used to practice an important and crucial beginning reading skill, letter recognition. This I Spy Letter Matching game can be used for many different purposes and in a variety of ways.
Why use I Spy Letter Matching?
Research supports how important it is for beginning readers to practice identifying letters. Intentional, frequent, and focused opportunities to practice over an extended time (deliberate practice) facilitates automaticity with this skill. Since research also shows that learners are more motivated to do an activity that is fun and novel, I Spy Letter Matching is an activity that meets that criteria. I Spy Letter Matching combines the motivation of a hands-on, engaging activity and deliberate practice with the goal of helping students gain automaticity in letter recognition and does it in a way that is both fun and motivational.
How to Use:
Spread the magnifying glass letter cards on a table or put them in a tub. Students will grab a letter card and find (color, trace, or write) the matching uppercase or lowercase letter on the recording sheet. For an added layer, students can put the magnifying glasses in ABC order.
